Portfolio/AP Portfolio

The primary purpose of the Portfolio course is to discover visual art as a language for the communication of the student’s ideas and feelings and to develop those technical skills which make communication possible.  The direction of this course is aimed primarily at serving two different students.  The first is that student who is seriously interested in the practical experience of art and is willing to meet the rigorous demands of a college-level art experience, submitting a portfolio of her artwork for evaluation to the College Board at the end of the school year. Secondly, this course is also meant for the student who would like to prepare for art school or a career in art, but who does not want to take the AP exam, by helping them bring together a culminating portfolio of their work. Many methods will be explored in the production of two- and three-dimensional works which express a variety of subjects both traditionally and experimentally. Besides the pursuit of meaningful interpretation of ideas and effective use of the art elements within a composition, a major goal is the development of the student’s ‘voice’ – a step in seeing their art as an avenue of personal expression.
