Drawing & Painting

Drawing is the most fundamental means of communication for the visual artist. Within this class students will be introduced to a variety of methods in representing form and idea as they relate to drawing and painting processes.  Observational drawing will be highlighted as a means to demonstrate the student’s ability to observe and communicate, and as a way to measure eye-hand coordination so as to help the student to develop the skills to look, translate, and express one’s observations through representational work, abstraction, or other styles and techniques. Students will explore the importance of ‘mark-making’ – a characteristic of his/her drawing/painting ‘personality' as they also become acquainted with some major historical and contemporary works which exemplify the concepts of our inquiries.
