Awards
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers recently announced the National Award winners from The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards of 2009. The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are the largest, longest-running, and most prestigious recognition programs for creative young people in the United States.
This year, more than 10,000 regional entries were reviewed by panels of professionals in the visual arts. Judges selected 1,000 total works in art to receive a variety of medals.
Summit sophomore, Chris Tappel of Blue Ash won the highest honor, a National Gold Medal for his computer generated graphic design piece titled “OJ Shattered.” Chris and the other award winning students were honored at the National Awards Ceremony at Carnegie Hall on June 4th.
In it’s 86-year history, The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have bestowed honors on some of America’s most celebrated creative leaders, including: Truman Capote, Sylvia Plath, Robert Redford, Zac Posen, Andy Warhol and Chris’ art teacher, Mark Wiesner. Indeed, Chris joins a community of impressive Scholastic Art & Writing Award alums.
