Credo Program

“Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr.

Good Students, Great People

When students graduate from The Summit, they face a world of complex choices, challenges, and responsibilities. We believe it is our responsibility to produce graduates who are prepared not just for the next test, but for life’s entire journey. That’s why we complement our excellent academic education with the Credo, Educating for Character program. While The Summit formalized its character education program during the 1991-92 school year, the development of character was part of the original mission of the school when it was founded a century earlier by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.

The building blocks of character development

The Credo, Educating for Character program is divided into 7 content areas: Putting Faith into Action, Demonstrating Leadership, Exploring Spirituality, Developing a Moral Compass, Building Partnerships with Parents, Embracing Diversity, Learning Values through Academics.

By exploring these topics, Summit students learn to be good citizens, and to see the value of applying their talents and their intelligence for the good of their community, and for society itself. The awareness they gain through the Credo program helps ensure that these values remain relevant throughout their lives. We are proud to both honor and sustain this important and meaningful legacy.
