Summit Country Day School seniors Max Williams, Hyde Park, and Maya Marlette, Fort Thomas, Ky., have been selected as semifinalists in the National Achievement Scholarship Program.
Max and Maya are among 1,600 academically promising African American high school seniors who were selected as semifinalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They were among 160,000 juniors who requested consideration for the recognition. They now will compete for about 800 Achievement Scholarship awards worth more than $2.4 million to be offered in the spring.
Finalists are selected based on academic performance throughout high school, endorsements and recommendations by their principals, essays, SAT scores, and an application which details each student’s participation in school and community activities, leadership abilities and educational goals.
