Summit Country Day Second Graders Celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation
03/18/08
On Thursday February 21, thirty five second grade students at The Summit Country Day made their Sacrament of Reconciliation. Families gathered in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel to attend the ceremony led by Father Philip Seher. Father Barry Winholtz, Pastor of St. Rose and Father Harry Meyer, Pastor Emeritis of St Susanna, also presided. Each Priest, bound by confidentiality, keeps the students confessions private.
All students, both Catholic and non-Catholic participate in this very special ceremony put together by second grade religion teachers, Susan Flaig and Kathleen Kane. The non-Catholic students performed The Gospel of the Prodigal Son in front of their fellow students and families. Following Reconciliation, the children approached Mrs. Flaig and Mrs. Kane to wash and dry their hands as an act of cleansing. Each child then attached a handmade felt cross to a large cross on the altar. The beautiful ceremony was filled with music, concluding with This Little Light of Mine. The children are looking forward to their next spiritual milestone, First Communion, which takes place on Mother’s Day.
