The Summit Country Day School’s Middle School hosted its 6th Annual Summit Bible Bowl on Wednesday where a team of four sixth graders won the right to keep the trophy in their classroom for the year. The winning sixth grade team won last year as fifth graders so they will have the trophy for two years running.

Summit celebrates Catholic Schools Week with a friendly Bible Bowl competition where two teams of fifth and sixth graders attempt to answer three rounds of 25 questions. The first round included Old Testament questions, the second round included New Testament questions and the final round included mixed questions. Each team was allowed three minutes to answer in each round. The team which answered the most questions correctly won. Middle School Religion teachers Julie Currie and Richard Hoyt coached the teams.

All fifth and sixth graders took a 50-question pre-test on the Bible. The top scorer in each grade was the captain of the team. This year, it was Julia Dean in the fifth grade and Davis DeFoor in the sixth grade. The students who had the second, third and fourth highest scores in each grade were then invited to be on the teams.

The students found out this year who was on the team on Jan. 6 and began studying in earnest. Students on the teams decided how they wanted to get together and study for the competition. The sixth graders spent time quizzing each other in advisement period and studying individually at home. The fifth graders met before school to quiz each other on questions as well as studying at home. As a reward, the students receive a Bible Bowl t-shirt, gift certificate to Frisch’s, and a certificate of participation.
