In the Spotlight: Gabriel Scott, Volunteer, Eagle Scout Tripp 694

08/21/08

Gabriel Scott, age 14, is in the final stages of the Eagle Scout process following the completion of his project at W.M. Johnson Hills Park. He exceeded the Park District's expectations with his renovation of an existing building into a future visitors center for the park. Successful completion of the project required Gabriel to plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project helpful to his community. Gabriel led the work project that included constructing a retaining wall, replacing a roof, installing new windows and painting the structure, mostly with materials and supplies he was able to acquire through donations. Gabriel said the project was overwhelming in the beginning, but once he broke it down into pieces, he was able to move forward, one step at a time. He also praised his parents for their support, especially his mother, for being his "gofer". Gabriel lives with his family in Anderson Township and will start his freshman year at Summit Country Day School this fall.
