Austin Berry '07, featured on this Life cereal box during his successful campaign to become Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year, will be on hand at Friday night's basketball game when his Summit soccer jersey is retired.

Fans of Summit Country Day School athletics can expect to see plenty of action at the Friday, Jan. 4 boys’ basketball game when the Silver Knights face friendly rival Seven Hills in Flannery Gym.

In addition to the basketball game, two milestones of Summit soccer athletics will be celebrated at halftime – the retirement of the soccer jersey No. 21 worn by Austin Berry ‘07, the 2012 Major League Soccer Rookie of the Year, and the installation of the 2012 Division III State Champion Boys’ Soccer team banner.

“We are expecting some special guests here to help celebrate Austin’s jersey retirement,” said Boys’ Soccer Varsity Head Coach Barnard Baker. “We’ve heard that some of his professional peers will be here as well as many of our soccer alums.”

The halftime ceremony will also honor this year’s state champion Boys Varsity soccer team. A large scale photo of the team has been installed on the wall of Flannery Gym and it will be unveiled at halftime.

Tip-off for the game will be at 7:30 p.m. Summit is undefeated thus far in the season, with many returning players from the 2011 Division III state championship team.

SCD Broadcasting will provide live play-by-play coverage of Friday’s home. Juniors Chris Lee, William Ng and Georges Saba will be live and on the air at Local Sports Radio. The broadcast will begin at about 7:15 p.m. Go to www.summit.localsportsradio.com/
