Summit students raise record $19,800 in third annual clean water event

The school raised more than $5,000 in a Christmas collection and collected donations of $14,800 so far in the past month to reach the total of $19,800. That is enough money to clean 1.98 million liters of drinking water through the use of PUR water purification packets from P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program.

Summit's Johnson getting more offers

Summit Country Day junior guard Kevin Johnson added offers from UC and Minnesota on Wednesday, according to Summit basketball coach Michael Bradley. Johnson also has offers that include Bowling Green and Creighton. He visited UC on Wednesday.

Summit fifth graders portray courageous figures in "Wax Museum"

“I wish everyone could have witnessed the Wax Museum project that the Fifth Grade team organized to teach the children about the character trait of courage, which the fifth grade is responsible for in the Character Program,” said Head of School Rich Wilson. “This was a fun, age appropriate, authentic way to accomplish the objective. It was great to see other children get into it and learn as they ‘toured the museum.’ ”

Summit senior wins $10,000 Coca-Cola scholarship

Summit senior Anna Delamerced of Hyde Park has been recognized by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation as one of the country’s most outstanding seniors. She has been awarded a $10,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation. Anna also has been awarded a $2,500 scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

Students in Dr. Tracy Law’s AP Human Geography and Honors World Issues class this year have contributed to the July 4-14 World Choir Games experience in Cincinnati by writing curriculum guide fact sheets on the countries which are sending choirs to the event. “The idea was that students would compile information on each country that could be used by teachers or other interested parties at all grade levels to prepare students for the games this summer,” says Dr. Law.

Sister Mary Ann Barnhorn, Development Director of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur (SNDdeN), Ohio province, kicked off the third annual Hands Across the Water (HATW) fundraiser Tuesday at The Summit Country Day School. Hands Across the Water culminates in a Walkathon on April 25. The funds students raise through donations will be given to SNDdeN to purchase PUR water purification packets from P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program.
