Summit Country Day School Senior LaDon Laney Jr. was named Football Player of the Year in Division V and VI in The Cincinnati Enquirer’s fall high school sports awards. Head Football Coach Mike Brown and Head Girls’ Soccer Coach Mike Fee were each named Coach of the Year in their divisions.

Laney, a senior running back and linebacker from Westwood, rushed for over 1,417 yards in regular season play. His record included 14 receptions for 106 yards, 24 touchdowns, 65 tackles, one sack, two interceptions (one of which was returned for a touchdown), four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery as a linebacker. He had 1,683 all-purpose yards through 10 games. Laney was named first-team all-Miami Valley Conference and first-team all-district.

"LaDon had one of those years that will have a lasting impact on the Summit Football program,” said Coach Mike Brown. “It's easy to talk about how great of a football player he is by looking at his stats, but what impressed me the most was his non-stop leadership and team first attitude. Taking into account LaDon's leadership, hard work and being in the top categories for running back and linebacker in Cincinnati, there's no doubt he's one of the best all-round football players in the state for 2011."

As a first-year head coach, Brown led the Silver Knights to the Division V playoffs, marking the first time Summit made the playoffs in consecutive seasons. Summit was 7-4 overall this season.

Fee led the first Summit girls’ soccer team to a state championship title in Division III. The team set school records of 19 wins, 24 games played in a season, 85 goals scored in a season and 79 assists in a season. With a 19-4-1 record, not only did the team win state but it also won sectional, district and regional while placing second in the Miami Valley Conference. The team won an Ohio Team Academic Award for a team GPA of 3.69 and National Team Academic Award.
