EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION SYMPOSIUM

Award-winning author and parenting expert Michele Borba, Ed.D., will deliver the keynote address Oct. 15 at the Fourth Annual Early Childhood Education Symposium at The Summit Country Day School.

A contributor on NBC’s Today Show, Dr. Borba has authored 23 books on parenting. Her keynote address -- "Raising Goodness: How to Raise Kids with Good Hearts Who Do the Right Thing" -- will focus on what really matters in raising a productive and responsible child. She will also present a session called "Friendship Skills: How to Teach Them to Your Children."

Among the speakers are the special education coordinator at Children’s Hospital, a Montessori consultant for Cincinnati and Dayton public schools, an environmental health oncologist from the University of Arizona, a teacher from the Arlitt Child and Family Research and Education Center, two licensed psychologists, a speech pathologist and a math specialist, notable members of the Cincinnati arts community and several Summit faculty members who are experts in various aspects of early childhood education.

In breakout sessions, parents will gain insight on how to identify learning difficulties and cope with them, learn how brain activity stemming from early childhood music education is correlated with later academic achievement, get tips on fostering math, language, social studies and self-help skills, and find out why it is important to teach young children a second language.
