Summit Country Day Night at Great American Ballpark May 25
Join The Summit community as the Cincinnati Reds welcome our state champion boys’ basketball and girls’ soccer teams for an on-field ceremony before the game against the Colorado Rockies on Friday, May 25 at 7:10 p.m. The teams will be honored on the field at approximately 6:45 p.m. and will throw out the game’s first pitch. The Reds have offered free tickets for current Summit students and half-price Field Box section tickets for parents at $17. As an added bonus, it will be Fireworks Friday, with a post-game fireworks display. Annual Fund for Excellence: Two Weeks Remain
There are just two weeks left to make your commitment to the 2012 Annual Fund for Excellence and help you child’s class celebrate the end of the year with an ice cream social. Fourth grade is maintaining its lead, but fifth is moving up quickly. Let’s see if sixth grade can zoom ahead of everyone by next week! Make your donation by May 25 by clicking Summit Annual Fund. If you have more than one child, your gift will be applied equally to participation in each child’s grade.

Graduation announcement yard signs are available in the Upper School office for $5. These signs are a great way to show how proud you are of your graduate.

Lower School Mother’s Day Mass on Thursday
The time for the Lower School Mother’s Day Mass is at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 17.

Summit Lower School “Lock-In” Friday Night, May 18
You get to spend the whole summer with your child, so let us have one more night with them! Reservations are now being taken for your child to spend the night at The Summit this Friday night, May 18. Drop your child off between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. at the Lower School and pick them up Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The cost is $75 for the first child and $25 for each sibling. Pizza, juice, age appropriate movies, late night snacks, and in the morning, juice and hot cinnamon rolls will be provided. Children must bring their own sleeping bag, pillow and pj’s. This is being offered to students in grades 1-4 (4- and 5-year olds if able to spend the night). A minimum of 14 campers needed. New Financial Literacy Class Added to Summer Exploration
A brand new Upper School Financial Literacy class for Juniors and Seniors is intended as an introduction to personal finance for high school students. The coursework is based upon Dave Ramsey’s “Foundations in Personal Finance,” classroom discussions, self-studies, and case studies. The major topics covered are savings, investment, wealth-building, saving for college, avoiding debt, consumer awareness, and budgeting. This .25 credit class fulfills the newly mandated Ohio graduation requirement for economics and financial literacy and will be taught by Mr. Hilton. The class runs from noon to 3 p.m. June 18-22. Registration is open for all Summer Exploration programs at The Summit, and brochures outlining all programs and classes were inserted in the magazines that have been mailed out to The Summit community. Summer Montessori classes will be offered June 4-August 3 for children ages 3-6. Weekly themed day camps will be held June 4 through August 17 for children 3-8. A variety of academic, artistic and athletic camps and classes for students age two through grade 12 will be available throughout the summer. Educational Insights: Brooke Byam on Siblings in the Classroom
As a multi-age teacher, Ms. Byam looks forward to having siblings in the schoolroom.

Silver Knights Athletics Playoff Updates
•The Baseball team won their first two playoff games and will now meet Madeira in the Sectional Finals on Wednesday, May 16, at 5 p.m. at Amelia H.S. Summit, with a record of 23-5, is the No. 3 seed and Madeira is the No. 1 seed in the playoff bracket.

•Congratulations to the Girls’ Track and Field team who are MVC Champions for the first time in Summit history! Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Track and Field teams will be competing in the District Meets this week – Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at New Richmond H.S.

•The Girls’ Lacrosse team will host CHCA in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday, May 17 at Williams Field at 5:30 p.m. The Boys’ Lacrosse team will meet Mariemont on Friday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m. at Mariemont H.S.

Informational Meeting for 2012 Fall and Winter Cheerleading May 22
There will be a cheerleading parent/athlete informational meeting on Tuesday, May 22 at 6 p.m. in St. Cecilia’s Auditorium. Please plan on attending this meeting for interested participants going into grades 9-12.

Register now for June 3 “Drive for the Knights” Golf Outing
The Summit will host its first annual “Drive for the Knights” golf outing Sunday, June 3 at 1:30 p.m., at Glenview Golf Course. Glenview is Cincinnati’s premier public championship course, offering both challenge and grace through its panoramic views, daring bunkers and water features. Proceeds will benefit The Summit and the Farrell Ackley Scholarship Fund.

K-6 Soccer Sign-Ups Available Now
Fall Soccer sign-ups for Kindergarten through sixth grade are available now until the end of May. Please sign up on the Portal through the athletics page.
