Middle School students prepare for writers competition

Power of the Pen Competition in Middle School

Summit students are preparing for the Power of the Pen District Tournament for Young Writers. Power of the Pen is an interscholastic writing competition in the state of Ohio. Students compete by writing in response to a prompt given to them by judges. The students have 40 minutes to respond to the prompt with creativity being the most important component. A few of the prompts from previous tournaments include: Isolated: Write a narrative based on this work. If only…Start the first sentence of your story with these words. The competition includes 7th and 8th grades teams from all over Ohio. At the first level of competition the Summit teams will be competing against 20 other schools. The students who qualify in the top 50% will go on to the Regional Competition on April 14th at Sycamore Junior High School.
