The Scoop from Athletics: Mr. Gregory G. Dennis

November 1, 2007

With the increasing enrollment of girls at The Summit over the last few years, some girls sports teams will be moving from Division IV to Division III. These changes went into affect in August.

The change was made because the Ohio High School State Athletic Association (OHSAA) re-evaluates all member schools bi-annually. At the time of our most recent evaluation, our female high school enrollment for Grades 9-12 was 131. The cut-off number for Division IV for winter sports was 129.

The coaches are preparing their schedules so that our teams will be better prepared for the opponents they will face in tournament play. This will be a new and very challenging year for our teams and coaches. We ask that you continue to support our teams and their coaches as we begin to work through this change.

Meanwhile, we wish God’s blessing on all of our Fall teams and thank you for another great season. As teams are now wrapping up the Fall season and competing in tournaments, we wish them all the very best.

CONGRATULATIONS to Gabby Steele for winning a state tennis championship in Girls’ Singles, the Boys’ Varsity Golf team for their 8th-place finish in the recently-completed State Tournament, and Colin Cotton for qualifying as the first-ever Summit state-championship cross country runner!
