The Scoop from the Athletic Department

March 1, 2007

Inclement weather the latter part of this winter, it couldn’t stop The Summit teams from finishing out the season with many achievements. There has been tremendous growth and development for all the teams in all of our Winter sports: Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, Wrestling and Swimming.

The Boys’ Varsity Basketball team finished up the regular season with a 9-11 record; (8-6 in the Miami Valley Conference.) The Silver Knights finished in second place in the MVC Scarlet Division. Several players earned honors over the course of the season. Senior guard Dan Cosgrove was chosen First Team All-MVC and Second Team Southwest District. Senior guard Christian Meininger was a Second Team All-MVC and Southwest District selection. Junior center Nolan Shannon and freshman forward Bradley Evans earned Second Team All-MVC honors and Seniors Corey Albertson and Dan Madden were Honorable Mention All-MVC selections. The long list of individual honors was a result of great team play throughout the season. The Boys’ Junior Varsity team finished the season 7-11 with five of those victories coming in the last eight contests. The freshmen team finished 4-11. At the boys’ middle school level, tremendous improvement was made by all three teams. Both the Silver and 7th grade teams faired better this season than last year. The 8th grade team entered the semi-finals of the MVC Tournament with a 9-6 record.

The Girls’ Basketball Varsity team finished the regular season with a 14-6 record. On Feb. 17th The Summit Girls’ beat Miami Valley Christian to become Sectional Champs and improve their record to 16-6. The team is still in the hunt for the District Title. At the girls’ middle school level, the 7th Grade team successfully ended their season to move on to tournaments, as well.

Varsity Wrestling ended up in sixth place in the MVC. Our Middle School team landed second place in the league. Sophomore Dan Slater, Freshman Maxwell Bowden, Freshman AJ Olding and Eighth grade Paul Slater all participated in the District Tournament. Maxwell and Dan both received MVC honors.

Also, we are so proud of our Swimming Team. Although small in number, they challenged the competition in a big way. We had several top finishes at meets and much success for the student-athletes with regard to personal improvement in their respective events. Bryan Bedacht was also given MVC honors in the Boys 100 Fly.

Thanks for your support this Winter. We are looking forward to not only great results in the Spring, but your continued support and great weather! Please reference the school’s athletic website for all schedules and directions.
