2011 Volleyball
The 2011 Volleyball season found Michael Schlomer (116-39) back coaching on the sidelines after taking a four-year break. Coach Schlomer, who also is an Upper School mathematics teacher, formerly coached the Summit Volleyball team from 2001 – 2007. The team finished the season 14-10 (MVC 8-5) with an appearance in the Sectional Finals.
The Silver Knights had great success against Seven Hills (17-4), defeating them twice in league play and they also handed Williamsburg (16-1) their only loss of the season. “We played well in the big games,” Schlomer said. “But we lost too many of the close matches this season. We needed to work together as a team and finish the close games. If we win those it’s a completely different season.”
“The girls are very talented. When we fire on all cylinders we can accomplish anything. Unfortunately, we had too many matches where different girls were firing at different times. Getting on the same page is top priority for next season.”
The Silver Knights will graduate starting setter Sarah McBride who had a career high 334 assists. But they will return the remainder of their starters for next season including Team Co-MVPs junior Hannah Cunningham (Outside Hitter, 164 kills, 61 service aces) and junior Claire Griffith (Libero, 209 digs) and sophomore Middle Blocker Dana Thomas (38 blocks), the team’s Most Improved Player.
First Team All MVC honors went to Hannah Cunningham. Second Team honors went to Dana Thomas and Honorable Mention went to junior Morgan Harris (OH) and Claire Griffith. Hannah Cunningham was also named Southwest Ohio (Div. III-IV) First Team and Dana Thomas was named Third Team.
