2011 Field Hockey
Field Hockey is Summit’s oldest sport. In Ohio, so few high schools offer the sport of field hockey that there is only one division. Therefore, Summit competes among some of the larger schools in the area, such as St. Ursuline, Mt. Notre Dame and Kettering Fairmont High School. This year represents huge growth of the sport in many ways. Summit offered a JV team for the first time. This gave 26 girls the opportunity to play all season long, improving skills and building confidence. The record of 2-9 is certainly not representative of the success shown by this team.
The addition of Jen Willis as the JV head coach and Varsity assistant was a huge boost for the program. Her experience as a college player, college coach, and program director of various field hockey camps made a huge difference for future years of the program.
The older players worked hard this year to get new team members and assisted in helping them learn and work on various needed skills. The new team members worked hard on listening, trying , and improving on their new skills. This effort by both new and old players has set a strong foundation for a bright future for the program.
Southwest Ohio Field Hockey League (SWOFL) awards went to the following: Jen List, First Team, Amy Corser, Second Team and Christy Cashen, Honorable Mention. In addition, Jen List was selected as SWOFL “Goalie of the Year” and Coach Maribeth Grattan was selected as SWOFL “Coach of the Year.”
