2011 Cross Country In Review
Girls' XC Review
The 2011 Girls' Cross Country Squad had very high and resonable expectations coming into the season. They came off the best season in girls' history and were losing only one runner from that team. The girls learned some huge lessons over the course of the season including: being humble, sacrifice for others, overcoming adversity and what it means to be a true team. Although our girls came up short in a few of their team and individual goals, they still represented themselves, our program and their familes very well. The team was able to capture their third consecutive MVC title, they were also team champions at Middletown Christian and placed second at Cedarville and Districts. This season brought to it many new faces including: Rhetta Maynard, Annie Rose, Nora Lakes, and Amanda Ketterer. Each of them were tremendous asset to the team and only made us that much stronger as a unit. Our girls finished with a season record of 87 – 53 and had the 2nd highest finish in school history at Regionals with a 9th place team finish this season. All and all this was a very successful and competitive year for the Lady Knights and the future is promising with our new runners and those coming up from the middle school ranks. We will miss our Seniors Hannah Eyer and Katrina Hounchell next year and wish them the very best with their next step in life.
Boys' XC Review
The 2011 Boys' Cross Country team was full of untested talent. As the season approached it was obvious that it was going to be a test of whether the new runners would be able to match the intensity of the veterans and how everyone would gel on race day. After losing the top four runners from last year's 6th place state team, the boys also had to deal with losing Charlie Michel at the start of the season. They were fairly rattled early on as was to be expected, but found a way to re-group as we approached the post season. The boys were able to capture their third consecutive league championship and were runner ups at the Middletown Christian Invite and District Championships. The boys' team was able to accomplish some amazing things this season and has a bright future ahead. We had great contributions from underclassmen Mason Moore, Chase Lyle, Dale Lakes and Chris Gallagher. The boys placed 5th at Regionals, missing a second straight appearance to state by one place. Seniors: Charlie Michel, Jack Dailey, Drew Von Handorf, Matt Schiess and Alex Ross will be missed and we wish them the very best!
