Boys' Soccer 2009

The 2009 Boys' Soccer Team enjoyed another outstanding season. The team endured a traditionally brutal schedule, which included seven games against state-ranked teams and three teams that were ranked #1 in Ohio. Despite the tough road, the Silver Knights finished 13-3-3- and #7 in the State. They also captured another District Championship, making it the third time in four years that The Summit has been to at least the Sweet 16 of the State Tournament.
The team produced many memorable moments: A rousing 4-1 “friendly” win over cross-town rival St. Xavier … A thrilling 1-1 tie with Ottawa Hills, the 2008 State Champions and #1 team in Ohio at the time … A hard-fought 2-2 tie with Springfield Catholic, the 2007 State Champions and #1 team in Ohio at the time … An impressive 2-0 victory over Highlands, the Kentucky State Runners-Up … A physical 3-0 win over #9 Dayton Christian to win the District Championship for the 10th time in school history.
Individually, Alex Priede broke a long-standing school record after netting his 119th goal. He finished his career with 126 goals, the 10th highest total all-time in Ohio history. Alex was named the Southwest Ohio Player of the Year and Miami Valley Conference Player of the Year. With the clean sweep of local honors, the senior was also First Team All State and a member of the NSCAA Central Region Team. Finally, Alex was also named a NSCAA Scholar All American and an ESPN All-American, two of the highest of high school distinctions. Alex has signed his National Letter of Intent to continue his soccer career at the University of Notre Dame.
Senior Michael VanSant broke The Summit single season assist record. He finished the year with 23 assists. Alex and Michael, along with junior Andrew Vance were named 1st Team All-MVC and All-SW Ohio. Senior Nico Posada and junior Jude Austin were named to the All-MVC 2nd Team. Seniors Scott Mays and Jim Oltman were All-MVC Honorable Mentions.
“The past few years, we’ve been so close to reaching our main goal of another State Championship,” said Barnard Baker, Head Boys' Coach. “To be so close and not win it all has only made us hungrier.”
