Financial Assistance

The Summit’s Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee awards all scholarships.  The diversity of the student population is a value actively promoted at The Summit. Educational costs are funded principally by tuition and we recognize the commitment and sacrifice that families make to finance tuition. In recognition of this, the Summit Board of Trustees has created a variety of ways in which parents can pay the tuition for their children. Financial aid may be awarded to qualifying families who have children in Pre-K through grade12. The amount of money available for the financial assistance programs is stipulated each year by the Board of Trustees.

The Summit Country Day School also provides academic scholarship opportunities for students entering grade 9. The Board of Trustees determines the amount of the funds annually for these programs. The Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee reviews all scholarship and financial aid matters and makes recommendations to the Head of School for final decision.

Financial Aid: Pre-K through Grade 12

• Families wishing to apply for financial aid for the 2010-2011 school year are required to  complete the Parents’ Financial Statement (PFS).  The Summit’s priority deadline to apply for financial aid for grade 9 is December 11, 2009.   The priority financial aid deadline for Pre-K through grade 8 and grades 10-12 is February 1, 2010.  The Summit Country Day School code is 7564 and should be entered on your PFS application.  Families wishing to be considered for financial aid should apply online at www.nais.org through The School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS).  If parents are separated or divorced, The Summit does require both parents to submit a separate PFS and include financial information from each parent’s spouse, if remarried.

• Families applying for financial aid are required to submit a copy of their 2009 Federal Tax Form 1040 to The Summit Admission Office by March 1, 2010.

• Step-by-Step instructions are included with the PFS, as well as a toll-free helpline (866) 387-2601.  A PFS worksheet is available in English and Spanish at www.nais.org.

• The School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) analyzes the information you submit on the PFS to estimate your family’s ability to contribute to educational expenses.

• The Summit will receive the Report of Family Contribution within 48 hours when the PFS is completed online.  You may also request that SSS send you its evaluation of your PFS.

• The Summit Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee reviews results from the PFS and any additional information the family wishes to supply.  All students applying for financial aid must first be accepted for admission before being awarded financial assistance.  All families that receive financial aid are required to submit the PFS on an annual basis for review by the Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee.

Upper School Merit Scholarships: Grade 9

• The Summit Country Day School provides merit academic scholarship opportunities for students applying to grade 9.  The scholarships are based upon the High School Entrance Test score results, academic performance in the classroom, leadership, service and teacher recommendations.  The Summit’s Financial Aid and Scholarship Committee awards all scholarships.  All students must be accepted for admission before being awarded a merit scholarship. Scholarship and financial aid notification will be mailed January 8, 2010, to ninth grade candidates.  There are no separate scholarship applications.  All students who apply and are accepted to grade 9 of The Summit are automatically considered for merit scholarships.

• If you have further questions regarding financial aid and merit scholarships, please contact Kelley Schiess, Director of Admission, at 871-4700, ext. 207, or via email Schiess_k@summitcds.org.  Families applying for financial aid may find additional resources at www.nais.org to include lists of Pre-K-12 scholarship/grant providers, and tuition loan programs.  The Summit also offers four payment plan options to assist families.
