Summer Camp:
It’s Summer at The Summit!

Adventures await your child this summer at camp at The Summit. Traditional day camp with weekly themes runs continuously from June 7-August 6. Summer Camp is available to children who are 3 to 4 years old (Squires) and 5 years old through 3rd grade (Knights). Young children must be able to use the restroom independently before admission to summer camp.

The activities each week are based on different themes. In addition to the topic of the week, indoor and outdoor play, board games, crafts, and of course, just plain summer FUN are part of the day.

Our Summer Camp program is designed and run by our professional staff of caring and experienced teachers, many of whom are members of the full time Summit Country Day School faculty. They are carefully selected and highly qualified, energetic, and enthusiastic individuals.

All campers have the option to attend full or half day camps. If your child is attending another camp on our campus during a different part of the day and you want him or her to attend summer camp for the remainder of the day, we will make arrangements.

There will be weekly off-campus field trips or special treats as part of the afternoon summer camp experience. Campers attending off-campus trips must have a signed authorization on file in the Summer Camp office. This form can be found in the registration section of the website www.summitcds.org –summer programs-summer camp forms or consent via the on-line registration.

Tweet! Tweet! And Hoot!- Here Birdie, Birdie!

A bird of a different feather! Did you know that there are different classifications of birds and bird families? What kinds live near us and how do they live? How can bird watchers tell the types apart? What do the different sounds mean? This week we will study our fine feathered friends. Of course there will be many crafts and activities that have the bird theme and we will try our hand at the art of bird watching.

Week 2 June 14-18 (Course number SC02)
“Silly Songs”

Enjoy a week of fun lead by our own Summit Country Day music teacher, Rebecca Slater, as we learn a variety of fun and silly songs.  The campers will perform a Friday concert showcasing what they have learned throughout the week, with a pizza party to follow.

Week 3  June 21-25 (Course number SC03)
Kids in the Kitchen – Cooking

Do you like food?  How about cooking the food? This week we will go a little crazy in the ‘kitchen’ and learn how to make some yummy treats and real foods that are nutritious as well as delicious.  We might make snacks for the summer heat, beverages to cool us down, or perhaps create an awesome meal to fill our stomachs!  Can you smell the good food now?  We will also talk about proper nutrition and eating habits.

Week 4 June 28 - July 2 (Course number SC04)
Holiday Madness

Everyone loves a holiday celebration. Back by popular demand, we will celebrate a different holiday every day this week as we have some summer fun. Christmas in July- why not?  What is wrong with summer-time Valentines?  Of course, we will celebrate our nation’s birth with games and crafts to honor it in style.

Week 5 July 6-9 (no camp July 5) (Course number SC05)
Water, Water, Everywhere

Come join us on a deep sea diving adventure as we explore the five oceans of the world and learn about the amazing plants and animals that live in them. Enjoy a variety of water activities in the afternoon that help bring the ocean theme to life. Get ready to get a little messy as we create ocean themed projects and crafts to take home by the end of the week.

Week 6 July 12-16 (Course number SC06)
Dr. Seuss

Who does not like the Cat in the Hat! This week we will read a variety of Dr. Seuss books and then choose one or two to perform for the other camper class. We will make costumes and props and of course rehearse our lines. Perhaps we will try our own version of green eggs and ham for a treat!

Week 7 July 19-23 (Course number SC07)
Sports, Sports, and more Sports

What is summer camp without a week of different sports? Once again we will try new and different team and individual sports. Some of them are traditional, others you may never heard of before! In reality, anything where campers are having fun with each other can be a sport; it is all part of the game!  Our annual outing to the Reds game is planned for this week in the afternoon, so plan to spend morning and afternoon with us!

Week 8 July 26-30 (Course number SC08)
Space Week

Take a trip to the outer reaches of the universe.  Learn about planets, comets, the moon and more. We’ll discover what makes each planet unique, identify constellations in the sky, and find our place in space. Lots of hands on lessons and experiments will enhance this unit. Even if you think you have studied it, we will be looking at the summer sky using our very own star lab.

Week 9 August 2-6 (Course number SC09)
Down on the Farm

What do baby animals, home grown fresh foods, tractors, and hard work have in common? Farming- that’s what! This week we will look at the industry of farming and learn about the different types of farms and how what they produce ends up in our homes.  Who knows where this week may take us!
