Multicultural Festival -- Egypt

Manners and Customs in Egypt

1. When invited to dinner, what gifts are customary to give to the hosts and how do you offer the gifts? It is customary to take a gift of flowers or chocolate. Give the gift with two hands or your right hand, never with the left.

2. When eating at the home of an Egyptian host, do you "clean your plate"? What time is dinner typically served? It's impolite to eat everything on your plate. Leaving food on your plate is a symbol of abundance and a compliment to the host. Dinner is served at 10:30 or later

3. With which foot did ancient Egyptians enter a house? The Egyptians thought it was good luck to enter a house left foot first.
