Manners and Customs in Brazil

BE LATE, IT IS OK!
Yes, this is a very typical Brazilian thing, to be late. If you are ever invited to go to a party, ar-rive at least 1 hour late. Otherwise you may still find the hosts getting ready for the party.

SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO?
Brazilians are very welcoming people. Whenever they meet someone, they always invite them to come to their house. For some foreigners that can be tricky as people don't actually mean what they say.  Sometimes it is only a question of being friendly. But, if you do go when you were not supposed to, don’t worry.  Brazilians will welcome you anyway.

NEW YEAR'S EVE
This is a celebration that has so many traditions in Brazil. The first thing is to be dressed all in white. This is one of many traditions that was passed to us by the Africans. If you are spending New Year's at the beach you should jump seven waves and offer flowers to Iemanja (the queen of the seas). Use something yellow to bring money, red to bring love and blue to bring peace.

WHAT TIME?
If you have to pick up someone for a date, probably the person will tell you that you can pass by between 9 and 10 pm. So, what time should you pass by? You have to decide between any time in that range. That is really confusing for foreigners

DINNER
Don’t even think of going to a restaurant for dinner before 8 pm. Even then you will probably be the only one in the restaurant.

Three Focus Points for Brazil:
